Deep tissue massage uses deep, slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). It’s used for chronic aches and pain as well as contracted areas such as a stiff neck, upper and lower back pain, sore shoulders and leg muscle tightness.

It’s used to break up scar tissue and break down muscle ‘knots’ that can decrease circulation and cause pain and inflammation. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on specific problems such as muscle pain problems, injury rehabilitation and limited mobility to help restore range of movement.

This is one of the many techniques used in a bodywork session at Body Alignment Solutions. Other techniques that may be used during a session are joint mobilisation techniques, kinesiology, assisted stretching and myoskeletal alignment therapy.
